The Purple Affair is The James M. Dixon Foundation’s premier fundraising and major social event where advocates, caregivers, leaders, and organizations are honored. Its goal is to raise public awareness and corporate and individual donations to support finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) and support those living with the disease and their caregivers. Hosted by a diverse group of local businesses, corporations, and individuals, it brings together community members, civic leaders, volunteers, and others who support The James M. Dixon Foundation's mission.
The President's Award
Dr. Robert S. Kaufmann, a distinguished internal medicine physician and founder of The Kaufmann Clinic, co-founded the Georgia Alzheimer's Foundation in 2020 after losing his father to Alzheimer's disease.
The Difference Maker Award
Sonder Health is a healthcare organization dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care through telemedicine and in-home services, with special emphasis and services for persons living with ADRD and their caregivers.
Circle of Care Award
Jamila Jones is a notable figure in Atlanta, Georgia, recognized for her significant contributions to the Civil Rights Movement, the preservation of African American cultural heritage, and supporting underserved seniors.
The Leader in Alzheimer’s Support Award
Dr. Glenna Brewster, an Assistant Professor at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, researches sleep disturbances in dementia, develops caregiver interventions, and holds leadership roles in gerontological nursing.
The Difference Maker Award
Jacquelyn Thornton, founder of SageNavigator, supports aging in place through grassroots programs and community engagement, she also serves as Executive Director for Two Sparrows Village.
Circle of Care Award
Grammy-nominated and Sony Innovator Award-winning pianist, arranger, and producer Bob Baldwin is a global jazz artist with over 40 years in the music industry, who is also a devoted caregiver and advocate recognized by AARP.
Foundation Award
Barbara Clayton Hudson, former President of the Sixth Episcopal District Women’s Missionary Society, dedicated eight years to supporting Alzheimer’s research and advocacy—work inspired by her personal experience caring for her father who battled the disease.
